Fr.
Romanus Cessario, O.P. Speaks at Notre Dame

Theologian
Delivers the Annual Aquinas Lecture
Fr. Cessario's lecture, entitled
"Scholarship and Sanctity: Lessons Aquinas Teaches Priests and
Seminarians," explored the modern tendency to prefer the pursuit
knowledge for its usefulness over the pursuit of the truth for its own
sake. In the tradition of St. Thomas, he called for seminaries to return
to their monastic roots and urged priests and seminarians to hone their
professional skills by living lives of prayer, study, and asceticism.
Fr. Cessario is a professor of
Systematic Theology at St. John's Seminary in Brighton, Mass. and serves
as a senior editor of the popular
Magnificat
prayer booklet. He is also the author of several books, including
The Moral Virtues and Theological Ethics, The Godly Image:
Christ and Salvation in Catholic Thought from Anselm to Aquinas,
and Introduction to Moral Theology.
